Held in Flevopark, Tapt is a laid back outdoor festival that is especially popular with young professionals and students. Expect food trucks, drinks, games and plenty of music.
It is more about socialising than big crowds, making it a great entry point if you are new to the city.
Rollende Keukens | 13 to 17 May
Westerpark transforms into a huge open air food festival with dozens of food trucks, live music and a picnic style atmosphere.
Entry is free, and it is one of the best places in the city to spend a sunny afternoon or evening with friends.
Vondelpark Open Air Theatre | Throughout May
As the weather improves, Vondelpark becomes one of the city’s main social hubs. The open air theatre hosts free performances including music, dance and comedy.
Bring a blanket, grab a drink and enjoy a relaxed cultural experience right in the park.
Fête du Champagne | 21 to 25 May
If you are looking for something a bit different, this event in Rembrandtpark offers over 100 champagnes and wines, along with food and live music.
It has a more relaxed, terrace style feel and is perfect for a long afternoon outdoors.
Dance Festivals Across the City | Throughout May
May is a big month for electronic music in Amsterdam. Events like Music On, Awakenings and Lente Kabinet bring large crowds and international DJs to the city and surrounding areas.
