Where to Watch Rugby in and Around Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a fantastic city for sports fans, and when rugby is on the agenda, there are some great spots in and around the city where you can catch the action. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, these places will ensure you enjoy every moment of the game. Here’s a rundown of the best places to watch rugby in Amsterdam:

1. Coco’s Outback

Located in the heart of Rembrandtplein, Coco’s Outback is a quintessential spot for rugby enthusiasts. This Australian-themed pub is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and excellent view of the game on large screens. Coco’s is my personal favourite for several reasons:

  • Lekker Nachos and Mozzarella Sticks: The nachos here are loaded with toppings. The mozzarella sticks are equally tempting.
  • QR Code Ordering: Skip the lines and order your food and drinks directly via a QR code on your table.
  • Lockers Available: For your convenience, Coco’s offers lockers so you can secure your belongings while you cheer on your team.
  • Early Arrival Recommended: It’s a popular spot, so getting there early is a good idea if you want to snag a prime seat. Note: You cannot book a table online.
  • Crowd Control with Stamps: If the place gets too busy after 19:00, they’ll give you a stamp to manage the crowd, ensuring everyone gets a fair chance at a good spot.

2. Three Sisters Pub

Three Sisters Pub is another excellent choice, also located on Rembrandtplein. This establishment captures the charm of an old English pub and offers a cozy atmosphere for watching rugby.

  • Affordable Drinks: Three Sisters is known for its budget-friendly drinks, especially their shots, which are a great deal for those looking to enjoy a few rounds without breaking the bank.
  • Easy Online Booking: You can book a table online, which is perfect for planning ahead and ensuring you have a spot to watch the game with friends.

3. Lion’s Head

The name says it all! For those who are looking for a place that combines great food with a fantastic rugby viewing experience, Lion’s Head should be on your list. Situated slightly away from the bustling Rembrandtplein, this restaurant offers a more laid-back environment with top-notch food.

  • Great Food: Lion’s Head serves up an impressive menu, including South African classics such as bobotie and boerewors. They also often have Savannahs available, adding to the authentic South African experience.
  • Booking is Essential: The restaurant can get quite full, especially during big matches, so make sure to book a table in advance to avoid disappointment.
